portable appliance testing

F.A.Q.

PAT testing is not a legal requirement. However, employers are required by law to ensure that their electrical equipment is in good working order and will not pose a risk to the employees that are using it, and PAT testing is one of the best, standardised ways to ensure this.
Class 1 equipment (or any general IT equipment) should be tested every 12 months. Portable equipment such as extension leads should be tested every 12 months. Any general equipment that is classed as handheld, transported or used more frequently should be tested every 12 months.
The incorrect fuse has been fitted. The cable or plug is damaged or worn. The equipment fails to pass an Earth resistance test, polarity test or insulation resistance check. The equipment has been recalled or is counterfeit.
